Sustainable strategies for smart growth
While we serve clients in over 100 markets through our global footprint, we have identified areas for strategic growth and are concentrating investment in those locations. We’re designing our locations to support an improved employee experience, better client service and more focused and efficient building infrastructure. Intentionality and vision for these locations reflects long-term thinking around our impact and environmental sustainability and a holistic, sustainable view of the buildings we choose to occupy.
For example, BNY is growing dynamically in Poland. In 2023, we opened the Wrocław branch of our European Bank and plan to hire more employees here in the coming years. This facility is doubly certified in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for its environmentally sustainability and expecting to achieve WELL Building Standard platinum certification for its features designed to benefit the health, well-being and performance of your people. The Wrocław office provides a modern, sustainable and vibrant environment for our employees to spend purposeful, efficient and enjoyable time together with an exceptional user experience including a variety of amenities.
Efficient building systems such as this take thought and time to build. Focusing on centralized equipment, innovation and infrastructure that we own or control will help drive resource use efficiencies.
Our operational footprint is primarily composed of commercial real estate as well as data centers, both of which contribute to our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions. Investing in our infrastructure represents an opportunity to mitigate our environmental impact. We consider the development of new buildings and major renovations an opportune time to advance sustainability.
In our desire to advance environmental sustainability and human wellness, we adhere to global design and construction guidelines that incorporate the use of leading national and global third-party green building certifications such as LEED and WELL. While we invest in improving energy efficiency, adhering to these standards broadens our view and investments in a facility’s environmental and human impacts. Seeking and attaining sustainability certifications are one way we invest for better outcomes today while managing our firm for the long term.
